I don't have a cat anymore, either.

I found an easy way to avoid probs with internal drags.  I leave 'em alone.

You're right, Dennis, I don't remember getting into the conversation about the double drag.  I haven't worked with that set-up in several years.

That sounds right.  Later models would be Sabra 545 and the 710 graphite.

The Century 345 Pro was made for a couple of years in the early 80's.  Have never handled one, pretty rare.  Not familiar with the capabilities.

The newest 710 I'm aware of is the Graphite 710, which I have two examples of.  Seems to be a Century 225 on steroids.  As much as I like the graphite models, they DO seem to have a weak spot.  I've seen more than a few with the reel foot broken off just below the main body.

LOL!  I can see that picture in my mind!  No longer a cat servant, but plenty of experience.

Baron2, the Sprint 205 is a lineal descendant of the Sprite 200 and 200A models, which I've discussed a shortcoming elsewhere on this forum.  If your bait gets hung up on debris, rock, etc., the reel doesn't stop retrieving line and proceeds to tangle line under the spinner head, making a major cluster****.
On the other hand, the 215 and 235 seem to be well-made and reliable.  I have an example of each, have fished with both and would part with either or both, because I need to thin the herd.

Hi, Bill, welcome to Johnson Reel Collectors Association!  I'm 7 years younger than you and far from being a computer whiz myself.  When you open the J.R.C.A. home page, start "scrolling" down and you'll come to a complete list of just about every Johnson reel ever made.  The sidewinders are at the top of the list.  Click on model 60 and you'll find a schematic and other info.  I hope this is helpful.

I always remove line from used reels.  No idea how long it's been on there or what the quality is.  Stripping off old line is a bit tedious and can be messy, depending on how clean the water was when it was last used.  But when I put a reel on a rod, I know it has fresh, new line on it.

I got tired of crawling around on the floor looking for an escaped spring.  I've pretty much stopped taking pinion assemblies apart to clean.  Even pinion gears seized up with dried lube can be freed up with a good soak in degreaser, followed by a bath in warm water and Dawn dish soap.  No more profanity or crawling on the floor.  Too hard to get back up, for one thing.  Saves time, too!
