I recently obtained a Johnson Fisherman's Handbook . Inside was a page titled "How Spin Fishing Started". It describes Lloyd Johnson debuting a new fishing reel in 1949. Also on that page is a picture of a reel. I have attached a copy of the page to this post. I am wondering if the picture is of a prototype or an actual Model 10 Sidewinder. It doesn't look like the Model 10A or subsequent Sidewinders regarding the front reel cover. Does anyone know what this reel is in the picture by chance? Thanks.

I don't know, but I have never seen a Johnson reel that looks like this one, so it stands to reason this must be an original 10. Thanks for this, I have a 1963 Johnson Fishing Guide that I tried to post here but ran into technical difficulties. What year is this guide? I sure would like to see the rest of it.

Huckster, I can't find a date on it but based on the reels it has listed in it, I would say around 1970. I will work on getting it scanned and uploaded.

Thanks, I posted my 63 book in the Catalog section in JPG format, I'll have to re-scan to put it in a PDF file.
