Here are a 80 Demo on the first three pictures and a regular 80 reels on the last three pictures. There must be have been changes in the reel over the years. The spool cover is different in the two reels. Demo 80 reel has a twist on cover, and the 80 reel has a screw on cover with vents. Handles are different colors too. I wonder have many of variations there are of the 80's?

What is the difference between a regular 80 and a demo? Is the demo just a display version?

Fully functional reel that is loaned to customers to try. This demo reel is from Al.

Ah, okay; so it's like buying a rental car?

Look for Demo Reel where all the reels are listed and you can read more about them. Johnson gave the dealer Demo reels for the customers to try out for free for a day. That way customer would see if they liked the reel before putting out money.
