Update.

I received the parts from Mat's.  Which included the parts he evidently bought from another repair shop that closed down.  It will take me weeks to go through everything.  I list all the parts on a spreadsheet so I can search for a part number.

I would guess I've bought the NOS Johnson parts inventory from approximately 8 different repair shops.  Why?  Good question.  My only explanation is so the parts are available to those who need them.  I didn't do it to make money and haven't made any money to date.  By the time I drive 18 miles round trip to the Post Office at California's $5.50 a gallon fuel cost it wipes out most theoretic profits.

I have discovered many mismatched parts in every pile of parts that I've purchased.  So if nothing else, I've tried to correctly identify what is there.

I also have a significant pile of used parts.  Some of which there is absolutely nothing wrong with.  So if you are using a reel and just need to keep it fishing and aren't concerned with a scratch or two.  I don't inventory that stuff.  It's just there.

I don't really talk about the parts much.  I'm not a salesman.  I am happy too help with a part anyone needs.  Give me a shout and I will check The Pile.

Wonder if a Sprint 445 gear and pinion would fit. Not sure of the ratio. Think it's faster.

Pinion Gears are 12 teeth
Main gears are 35 teeth

Gear ratio is 2.9/1

Most Johnson reels work out to that gear ratio

All or most of tge CM and Tanglefree reels have the same gears in them.  So tge gear, turn ratio is the same.  If that seems slower than your other reels of the same family....it's unexplainable

I was the yougest...."The Kid". Our Combine was a pull type John Deere 30 and we pulled it with a Massey 65 Dieselmatic. On wet years we used two or three tractors chained together to pull the whole thing through the wet fields.
