710B Disassemby
« on: February 05, 2018, 03:54:04 PM »
Hello, I have just acquired a 710B and it is desperately in need of a clean and lube. I do not see any external screws. Please help. I plan on using Lubriplate reel grease ( I'm guessing it is a #0 or #00 white lithium based) and 3 in 1 oil- recommendations? TIA , Marty the Minnowman

Welcome to the Johnson site Minnow man. Just unscrew the front cap, then pull the back off to expose all the inner workings. That is the way most Johnson's come apart, I had the same problem when I picked up my first non Century Johnson. I've attached the schematic for the 710B below.

Hi. Welcome aboard. The 710B is a nice little reel. Here is a link to the schematics for this reel on this website. If you explore this site, you will find a lot of good info on Johnson reels. If you unscrew the front cover on the 710B, you then can remove the back cover which gives you access to the gears. I personally use very little grease. I do use 3 in 1 light oil for the shafts. Hope this helps.
