Line Retrieval Pin
« on: July 30, 2017, 11:52:31 AM »
I do have one question for the group: did Johnson make metal line retrieval pins for the 100b? I'm asking because I want to use braided line and was told that eventually it would cut though the plastic. I have 40th and 45th anniversary models that I have been using. If they didn't make them for the 100b, did they make any model with a metal line retrieval pin?

Hi. Yes the 100B Century reels have metal pickup pins. So do Citations and the other early reels Johnson made. I don't know when they switched to the ceramic pick up pins but it was later. Somewhere around the early 1970's as I know the 1974 Guide Model 160 has the ceramic pin. What is interesting is that some of the early reels Johnson made that were used a lot developed a groove on the rotor next to the pick up pin from the fishing line rubbing it. When purchasing older reels, the one thing to check for is the wear groove on the rotor.
