Laker Model 140A Pictures
« on: July 15, 2017, 07:46:42 AM »
Here are pictures of a Laker Model 140A. It is an interesting reel as it represents sort of a transition between the Laker reel versions. The Model 140 Laker reel has a line spool that on the outer rim contains a nylon (?) edging which allowed the line to be cast smoothly around the multi-point line pickup rotor. Without this edging, the reel doesn’t work. On this 140A you can see the line spool is now all metal with the nylon edging being replaced by a wide outer metal rim on the spool. The 140A also keeps the same drag system as the 140 which included an internal nylon screw allowing adjustment to the tension imposed by the drag bar. The 140B no longer had this screw adjustment. The subsequent Laker II Model 140C reel changed the drag system to something more akin to Century reels. At some point I will add pictures to the 140C thread to show that. Both the 140 and 140A had the multi-point line pickup rotor while the 140B went back to what I call the “normal” single pin line pickup rotor as well as a “normal” line spool. Another kind of neat difference between the three versions is the side badge. The 140A has a fish going down, the 140A has a fish going up, and 140B has no fish (doesn’t take much to excite me)!  A nice little reel that lets me complete my collection of the initial Laker series reels. The pictures below show the 140A reel by itself but also with the 140 and 140B so you can see the comparisons I describe.
