Force 525R vs 525 Comparison
« on: May 23, 2017, 09:47:37 AM »
The 525R’s were only made in 1983 along with the 525 which was made 1983-88. This reel has a metal body, the 525 is plastic. They probably started with the metal then switched over to the plastic to save money. So they probably started with 525R in 1983 then decided to go with a cheaper version that same year. This is the 5th 525 I’ve acquired and this is my 1st 525R. It has some other differences a smaller line hole in the cap & a large line snubber attached to the rotor nut. The 525 just has a rotor nut and silicon ring glued inside the cap that acts as a line snubber. The cranks and star wheels are different also. The 525R crank is the thicker design with the raised bubble Automatic Transmission decal, while the 525 is the thin metal with extra holes. The 525R star wheel is wider and thicker with the cupped metal insert, the 525 is thinner more cheaply made with the small insert. The rest of the parts are exactly the same. No doubt the 525R model was more expensive to produce and a higher quality reel, and harder to find.
In the pictures below the 525R will be on the left side.
