Pictures of my best Century 100

I got this reel on eBay cheap. I saw one go for over $200.00 last fall. Two guys had themselves a little bidding war. I wanted to sell the loser mine, but I didn't know how to contact him. This is the reel that started it for me. My dad and grandpa both used these reels when I was growing up. I think my dad still has a couple he bought and used way back when.

I was wondering if you would still consider selling this reel?

I sorry, I didn't mean to mislead. I never really considered selling it, it's my most prized reel. Now if you asked my wife she would sell it in a heart beat, if she could figure out which one it is.

Here's a question for all you knowledgeable guys.
I read somewhere you can swap the side plates on the Century's which allows you to use either hand to cast/retrieve. Is that or fiction?
I cast with my right hand, crank/retrieve with my left. All or most of the reels are set up for the opposite scenario.
Thank you again

Fact, In fact this eBay seller has been trying to con somebody for several months. I think Chuck told him how it works, but this guy ignored him.

That's good then. Because I was planning on getting a bait cast rod and setting one of my reels up as mentioned.
I've purchased a few reels, but I have stripped any of them down, inspected lubed/oiled any yet. But that is the plan in the near future.
I have two Eagle Claw bait cast rods incoming.
Thank you

I have noticed that some people on eBay use the word "rare" fairly liberally. And I guess, if you consider the fact that any Johnson reel made in the USA was made from 1996 or earlier, I guess they are somewhat correct. Hopefully it's because they are uninformed or a novice, such as myself and not because they are trying to mislead.
Hope you all have a great day

Gary, another thing I think buyers need to be concerned about is that many times, Johnson reels for sale on eBay have incorrect parts such as push buttons or crank handles. And the seller may or may not know that. I learned that the hard way when I started collecting a few years ago. Friends of mine would advise that maybe I had just gotten a "Frankenreel"! What amazes me is some of the prices some are asking for on some really beat up reels. And finally for me, I usually ask the seller if all functions work including cast, retrieve, anti-reverse and the drag. Many times after asking, they come back advising no.

Another question. Can the Citation cranks/handles be reversed also?
I think with buying off of eBay it's go slow. Do a lot of looking, comparison to schematics, etc.
Thank you

Yes, a Citation is a Century with a larger spool. Same gears, same everything except frame, front cover, spool, rotor and side plate with the Citation name.

Gary, if you switch the sideplates on a Century or Citation, don't forget to flip the line spool over, too. When the reels are set up for right-hand retrieve, the word "right" on the spool should facing the front of the reel. For left-hand, "right" should be facing the back.

Thanks for that Skip. I would have had no clue about that.
Received my rods yesterday. Went to Walmart yesterday but they only carry an aerosol reel oil. So I ordered some oil/lube off of Amazon. As soon as that gets here I'll be tearing into my first reel.
Keep your fingers crossed and thank you for all of your help.
