Gary, I have a Seville 170 and a Strike 435 that both have oscillating spools. I am not sure what others may have it.

And Dennis posted a pic of a Sabra 131 that he advises has the oscillating spool. I have a 131 without it.

Those oscillating systems break me out in hives to work on.

I have a Sabra 131 with and one without. If you look at the schematics the 131 has a note stating some have it and you should refer to the 130B schematics for those with oscillating spool. The Seville 170 schematics say the same thing and refer you to the Guide 165 schematics for those with oscillating spool.
Skip the first Sabra 130B I took apart rattled me so bad that the second one I bought I cleaned it without taking that section apart. I've since got over it and have had several oscillating reels apart and back together again without any problems.

Dennis, it seems to me that the oscillating spool feature seems to only be present on heavier-duty reels.  Is the heavier test weight of the line a factor in this?  Nearly all of my reels are light-medium duty with line test weights in the 4-6-8 lb. range.  Thoughts?

I hadn't ever thought about it, but it makes sense. Should be able to get more of the thicker line on the spool if its evenly distributed.

The Fiskar I and Fiskar II have oscillating spools, also.

Think we're up to 10 now

Hope you guys had a nice Thanksgiving

I have two examples of Fiskar II 511, one green front cover, one black front cover.  The green front cover 511 has been on a Garcia "Ozark Lakes" 5' 6'' spinning rod and the black front cover Fiskar 511 will be on a Berkely "Lightning Rod" 6' 6" spinning rod by next spring.  The Fiskar reels are a bit awkward to use, needing two hands to cast, but they're fun to fish with.
